Estate planning doesn’t need to be complicated.

A note from Emily T. Porter

Welcome,

If you’ve been meaning to set up your estate plan — or update one that no longer meets your needs — you’re in good company. Estate planning is often relegated to the backburner because it can feel overwhelming, expensive, and sometimes confusing.

The good news: it doesn’t have to be any of those things. A good estate plan is really just a set of clear directions for the people and things that you love. It helps you identify who will speak for you if you can’t speak for yourself, where your stuff goes when you pass away, and, if you have children or pets, who takes care of them in your absence. My job is to explain your options in plain English and create documents that carry out your wishes when the time comes.

Before opening Porter Estate Planning PC, I practiced estate planning and tax law at McDermott Will & Emery (now McDermott Will & Schulte), advising high-net-worth individuals and families on every phase of planning. Today, I bring that same rigor to a practice focused on personal attention and practical advice for everyday individuals and families.

The first step is a simple conversation. No preparation needed, and no commitment required. We will discuss your family, your assets, and your priorities, and you will leave with a clear picture of the path forward.

Warmly,

Emily T. Porter, estate planning attorney

P.S. You do not need to know which documents you need before contacting us. That’s what we will determine in our first conversation.

With great care and down-to-earth relatability, Emily made the somewhat daunting process of creating a will and trust both comfortable and understandable.
